Rubberized surfacing makes all features accessible, highlighting inclusive play.

Development of the lot at the corner of Del Amo Boulevard and Clark Avenue to accommodate a multi-use public event space, restrooms and amenities for special events.

The City will improve accessibility and safety for pedestrians by building walkways to access shopping centers, making street improvements and moving existing Edison systems underground.

The Palms Park Community Building is 45 years old, dating back to the late 1970s. And as with any building that age, it is in need of some repairs at this point. Specifically for this building, it is in need of significant repairs to its exterior siding and façade, its electrical system, air conditioning and heating system, and roof. 

The city is planning to go beyond just repairs and make added improvements and renovations to the building, including:

• A 1,200-square-foot expansion of the building for a new teen room, disabled-access restroom and storage. 
• Flooring improvements.
• New restroom fixtures. New doors, windows and ceilings.
• New paint, finishes and trim throughout the building.

The project is expected to cost approximately $8 million. Funding will come from a variety of sources pooled together by the city, including: Measure L, federal funds secured by Congressman Robert Garcia, state funds secured by Assembly Member Anthony Rendon, and federal American Rescue Plan (ARPA) funds.

Enhance traffic and pedestrian safety with upgrades such as curb extensions (see example below) at multiple locations in Lakewood, including the Palo Verde Avenue and Studebaker Road pilot projects.

The Weingart Senior Center will be upgraded to a fresh new look, designed for accessibility and the comfort and enjoyment of its patrons. In addition to the interior refurbishments, the exterior landscaping and signage will be refreshed. 

Interior improvements include:

• New HVAC system
• ADA accessible restroom updates 
• ADA accessible parking 
• New flooring, paint, ceiling, lighting, doors and window treatments
• Installation of hearing loops
• New interior signage

• New Tot Lot playground for children 2-5 years old.
• The playground is fun and challenging with several partner swings (i.e. parent-child and child-child) which make swinging a social activity.
• The new equipment complements the adjacent school age playground.

• Combination Tot Lot (2-5 years) and School Age (5-12 years) Playground.
• The new play equipment will stimulate the minds and development of children.
• Two zip lines will be the highlight of this new play space.

• New soccer mini-pitch court installed. Measure L funding was used in combination with a major donation from the LA Galaxy Soccer Club, their corporate sponsor Herbalife, and the U.S. Soccer Foundation. The inspiration and support for the mini-pitch came from Jalen Neal, a star with the Galaxy who grew up in Lakewood. 

• Measure L funding was used to provide lighting for the mini-pitch, and to renovate and upgrade the nearby basketball courts.
