RV & Trailer Parking Permits

Please review these rules before you apply for your free permit:

• Only a Lakewood resident can obtain a permit, and only for vehicles registered by the DMV to a Lakewood address (other than a post office box).
• Each on-street parking permit is valid for one day. (Permits can be combined for up to three consecutive days.)
• Typically, an owner will need one or more permits to park while setting up a recreational vehicle for a trip and one or more permits while preparing the vehicle for storage at the end of the trip.
• A one-day "gap" must separate the last day of three consecutive days of permitted parking and the first day of another day of permitted parking.
• An RV, truck camper, or trailer can receive up to 52 one-day parking permits.
• Only two permits for on-street parking will be issued for at any one address at any one time.
• For owners of more than one recreational vehicle, the maximum number of permits issued at any one address is 104.

At the online permit system, you can set up a personal account, obtain permits then or later, add or cancel a permit, and change permit dates. The automated system will confirm your permit via e-mail. 

RVs and trailers not registered to a Lakewood address (not including a post office box) can be cited if parked on a Lakewood street without a special permit.

The citation for parking an out-of-town RV or trailer on Lakewood streets carries an $83 fine for each day of unpermitted parking.

To accommodate short-term needs when out-of-town family or friends visit, Lakewood residents can request a free, on-street parking permit at City Hall during business hours.

Please note these guidelines:

• Complete this form to request the permit(PDF, 67KB); you will not be able to add an out of town vehicle to the online permit system without submitting the form to our customer service staff. 
• The request must be made in advance by the resident in front of whose home the RV or trailer will be parked. Please note that City Hall is closed on alternating Fridays.
• A maximum of 30 days of on-street parking per year can be permitted, in increments that cannot be longer than 14 days.
• The permit is not transferable.
• The RV or trailer must be moved during street sweeping hours.
• The RV or trailer must be moved every 72 hours to comply with California’s basic parking law. Failure to move can result in a parking citation and the cancellation of the on-street parking permit.
